Meet the Injectable Safety Team

Four physicians staff the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Dr. Ke He is the responsible physician for this site and manages its injectable-complication content; the Center Director guarantees the hospital response behind her, and the surgical and dermatologic members of the team carry the cases in which an occlusion cannot be answered by dissolving the product alone.

Injectable safety and vascular complications · recognition and early management · skin and pigment outcomes afterwards

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service — and she is the lead physician of this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, she has worked on the clinical front line in skin laser and injectable aesthetics for more than 20 years, serving over ten thousand patients.

On this site her part is the recognition and the first hour. She asks what was injected and where before she examines anything, because whether the filler was of the enzyme-dissolvable class decides whether there is anything to dissolve, and because an injection near the glabella, the nose or the temple can reach the eye and changes the urgency rather than only the plan. She reads the skin by colour, temperature and refill, marks and photographs the boundary of what has changed, and tests vision herself rather than asking whether it feels normal. She treats the emergency phase and the healing phase as two separate problems months apart, and she refuses to begin scar or pigment work while the skin is still closing. Where tissue has been lost, she says so plainly and plans from what is left.

Clinical focus

  • Recognition and early management of vascular occlusion after filler
  • Assessment of skin colour, temperature and the boundary of a changing area
  • Eye and vision checks after a facial injection, and referral when they change
  • Dissolving a filler of the enzyme-dissolvable class, and managing the fillers that cannot be dissolved
  • Staging scar and pigment work after the skin has settled

  • Member, Facial Rejuvenation Group, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch

Recognition is the treatment

There is no way to test at home whether a blood vessel is blocked, and no way to undo the minutes that pass while a finding is watched. The useful action is a call that names the finding — pain out of proportion, blanching skin, a mottled pattern, a change in vision — because that is what starts the response, and it is the reason this site puts the emergency routing above every explanation it offers.
